用法辨析
- although的基本意思是“尽管,虽然”或“然而,但是”,常用于引导陈述语气的让步状语从句,且引导的句子常指事实,而不指设想。
- although可置于句首(此时多用逗号与主句分开),也可置于句末(此时用不用逗号均可),也可用于句中表强调。
- 在although引导的复合句中,若主句和从句的主语相同,且从句的谓语动词含动词be,则从句的主语和动词be可以省略。
- although不能与but在句中同时出现,即有了although就不可以再用but。但although可与副词yet连用而产生关联关系,在含让步状语从句的主句中还可以使用nevertheless, still等副词。
- 区别although和though:though可以做副词,指“但是”,但是although不行。as though属固定搭配,though不能替换成although。although要比though来得更正式,相对而言,语气比较重,但是though的使用更普遍。although引导的从句,常指实际发生的事情,而不是假象,设想。though和although都可在从句中用作连词,通常表示相同的意思,但though更普遍适应于非正式的表述中。He said he would come, he didn't, though. 句中的though不能替换成although。He would not be unhappy though he should have to live alone. 就算要一个人住,他可能也不会不开心。He was not unhappy although he had to live alone. 虽然他不得不要一个人住,却没有不开心。
