- 1200年左右進入英語,直接源自古法語的ariver,意爲來到陸地;最初源自拉丁語的adripam:ad (去) + ripa (岸上),意爲到達岸上。
用法辨析
- arrive的基本意思是“到達”,可用於具躰地點,也可以用於指抽象事物,還可表示“(時間)到來”。arrive引申可表示“新鮮事物的出現”“人在事業等方麪取得成功”等。
- arrive用作不及物動詞時,常可與介詞at〔in, on〕連用。arrive at表示“到達某地點”時,往往指到達較小的地點; arrive in表示“到達的區域”時,往往指較大的地方; arrive on則表示“到達某現場”。
- arrive可與表示地點和時間的副詞連用,但是不能與表示意圖或程度的副詞連用。
- arrive的過去分詞可用作形容詞,表示“已到達的”。
- arrived,arrive的過去分詞,做形容詞時,指“已到的”,如the newly arrived traveller(新到的旅遊者)。現在不習慣說be arrived,如is arrived和are arrived;
- 廻到家用arrive home,不用arrive at home,因裡麪的home是副詞;
